Eugene W. Grant is the Mayor of Seat Pleasant: A City of Excellence, in Prince George’s County Maryland. Grant provides his city government and constituents with superior leadership skills bringing a wealth of talent in management, training, budgeting, strategic planning, organizational development and community organizing.

Managing a multi-million dollar budget, Mayor Grant has consistently ended each fiscal year with a surplus while improving the delivery of services to his constituents. Known for his keen ability to foster relationships and build coalitions; Mayor Grant has improved the infrastructure of the city by repaving streets, upgrading sidewalks, and installing new storm drainage systems.

Mayor Grant has guided the City of Seat Pleasant in reducing its expenses, increasing it revenues by 25% and ending the year with over $1 million dollar surplus in his first year. Moreover, under Mayor Grant’s leadership, he has tripled the police department, moved to secure a twenty acre site as a Brownfield designation which now provides for a potential of a multimillion dollar development.  In addition, Mayor Grant has worked to construct a major fifteen year pending Storm Drain Project. Mayor Grant’s vision to improve the community led him to establish the Mayor’s Office of Nuisance Abatement which has had an over 70% success rate in abating citizen complaints in reference to quality of life. Mayor Grant is leading his city in the area of economic development.

Recently, Mayor Grant has successfully negotiated the largest green development project in the city’s history with a September 2012, projected groundbreaking. The City Center will comprise of a new City Hall, Senior Housing, a Community Center, a Recreation Center and a Health and Wellness Center. The City Center is a distributed, integrated, renewable, sustainable infrastructure and power generation development that will have a net-zero carbon emissions. This will be the single-largest green project of its kind in the State of Maryland and possibly the nation. Through this project Mayor Grant desires his city to be a cleaner, more efficient and more environmentally sustainable community in the United States.  Furthermore, Mayor Grant has ushered in numerous other development projects in the planning stages with a projected combined value of over US$300 million.

Mayor Grant, is also strongly committed to acquire resources to improve the health status and address head on health disparities in his community and surrounding communities in Prince George’s County. He has formed strategic partnerships with the University of Maryland’s School of Public Health its Prevention Research Center, Prince George’s Hospital, Prince George’s Health Department and other agencies and non-governmental organizations.

This partnership provided for the assessment of various community health needs and initiated a program of community education. This partnership resulted in him receiving a Strata Award for those who have made significant contributions to the quality of life in Prince George’s County. He is also the Chairman of the Board for the newly formed Health Empowerment Network of Maryland, Inc. (HENM, Inc.) which works to improve the systems and quality of healthcare in the State of Maryland. Through HENM, Inc. and the medical partnerships he has formed, Mayor Grant was able to open the Health Connect Program, which is a care transition clinic at the Prince George’s County Hospital. This Program focuses on ways to reduce unnecessary hospital readmissions for Medicare and Medicaid patients

Mayor Grant has received numerous awards such as the Who’s Who Among Global Business Leaders, Who’s Who Among Entrepreneurs, Distinguished Business Leader Award from then-Congressman Robert Ehrlich, Jr., the prestigious Phoenix Award from Mayor Shirley Franklin of Atlanta and the 2012 Strata Award from the Prince George’s Hospital Center Foundation.

Mr. Grant is a staunch activist on behalf of youth issues. As founder and president of Global Developmental Services for Youth, Inc., an international non-profit organization he started almost 23 years ago in Seat Pleasant, Mayor Grant has affected the lives of thousands of youth worldwide. An accomplished strategist and visionary in youth development, Grant offers a rare blend of creative and operational strength. He has worked with Governors, Congressmen and Presidents, both foreign and domestic, to improve the lives of youth in the United States, the Caribbean and in Africa, particularly.
